I'm Back...With a New Format

I'm gone so often I really should stop apologising for being gone, shouldn't I? Anyway, I'm back, and I've decided I'm going to change the way I do my posts - I have decided to conform to a societal convention and litter my posts with screenshots rather then covers *eyeroll*. No, I don't really mean it like that - honestly the reason I never did this from the start is because I'm just plain lazy, and Blogger hates images. But it's okay, I'll work it out...I don't know why I just didn't use wordpress from the start.

As for actually explaining my absence, well...blame my mother - thanks to her I was sitting around watching that show Revenge and Downton Abbey non-stop (actually, the latter was my fault). Oh yeah, and I was busy fangirling over this video (seriously, it is SOOOO INCREDIBLY AWESOME).

Self-Publishing Stories...Sorry About That!

Okay, so, I'm not exactly sure what happened (I'm going to reduce it down to a Blogger bug) but you might have noticed that the next 2 completely unfinished reviews decided to go ahead and publish themselves. Just letting you know that wasn't meant to happen, and hopefully the proper ones will be up soon.

"The Space Museum"

Considering this story's predecessor, this story made a nice little bit of fun padding. It also took wonderful advantage of the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimeyness the TARDIS can supply.

The Short Overview
This episode was very The Edge of Destruction-y, so if you really absolutely hate that story this one may not be for you. But if you're on the same bandwagon as me and love a great timey-wimey adventure (with a little technobabble to complete the formula) you'll love The Space Museum. It essentially manages to leave your mind reeling without being too confusing.

The Sister List

So I have not failed to notice the number of tiny blogs out there (but still bigger then mine, ugh) that just want a little more readership. So I've set up a 'Sister List'. Basically, the idea is that we support each other - you get on the sidebar of my blog if I get on yours.

If you want to be on the list, let more know my commenting on any of my posts. My list will take anything with a feed - Wordpress (and obviously Blogger) definitely works perfectly, and I'm quite sure Tumblr etc does too. We can talk about details, and where the link to my blog will go on your page.

For now the list will show 10 blogs, with the most recently updated at the top. So if I ever get to above 10 on my list, the more you blog the more you appear and thus the more you are rewarded, which I think is fair. If that happen though, I will make a page with the complete blog list.

Oh, and you don't necessarily have to have a Doctor Who blog!

"The Crusade"

It doesn't really occur to you until it happens, but purely historical episodes actually require a decent amount of prior knowledge. And because English medieval history is one of the few sections of history where I'm pretty much clueless, I got a little stunted here.

The Short Overview
This story was actually quite quick, so that aspect of it made it quite pleasurable to watch. But it really does require and interest in the Crusades - if you're planning on watching this, make sure you at least know your stuff first. But overall, it's a great historical choice.

"The Web Planet"

Another planet, another set of alien races at war with each other. Think something along the lines of The Daleks, except this time the baddies aren't nearly as clever.

The Short Overview
While it wasn't totally terrible, this episode was still boring - I found some of it's predecessors such as The Romans and Planet of Giants far more exciting. Is it worth the watch? This time I seriously think it boils down to personal opinion. Would I watch it again? Probably not.

"The Romans"

There's no better way to test a new companion then by throwing them into a historical episode. And I have to say, both Maureen O'Brien and this story did not fail to impress.

The Short Overview
Brilliant! Even if you don't really know or aren't interested in Roman history, you should enjoy this story. It's full of humour - a concept that only really got introduced in the previous episode - and is all-round charming. If you wanted a historical episode, this would be a brilliant choice.

Sorry About The Absence

You may have noticed I had a complete surge in posts and then...nothing. This is just to let you know I haven't gone anywhere, and due to exams coming up soon my posts will be a lot less frequent. But I'm planning to go for consistency - hopefully I can do 1-2 posts per week.

Anyway, I'm about to release my review of the The Romans, so enjoy!

"The Rescue"

Ahh, a slightly loopy Doctor, a hostile planet and a new companion - three ingredients that could easily make a recipe for disaster. But actually, this story ended up working in the most peculiar way...
The Short Overview
If you're one of those people who disliked The Edge of Destruction, you'll look at this story's title and episode count, scrunch up your nose and think oh no, not again! And while it's true that it was solely designed to introduce a new companion, this small sacrifice of your time can really pay off.

"The Dalek Invasion of Earth"

It's kind of amazing, but this episode actually reminded me of the New Caprica episodes of the new Battlestar Galactica. Anyway, more to the point, this story sure was an improvement on The Daleks, and wasn't a bad watch.

The Short Overview
Like the Daleks? You'll like The Dalek Invasion of Earth for sure. And this episode even had it's own invasion and 'resistance', so if you're into apocalyptic military sci-fi you might very well enjoy this too.
